About the Family Court system
The Government of Ontario has established specialized Family Courts in 17 court locations in the province that offer family mediation and information services to their clients who are going through a separation or divorce (issues are support, property and parenting).
A person need not actually be involved in a court process to use the mediation services available through the Court. Mediators are available at these locations through the service provider or the Family Law Information Centre.
Mediators on the list should have Acc. FM (OAFM) credentials, or their equivalent. The Ontario Government approves the mediators associated with each service. Fees for mediation are graduated based on incomes. There is a limited number of hours that clients are entitled to for use of the service, and there are application forms to fill out.
For more information about mediation services available through the Family Court in your area (they are not available in all areas), please contact your local Family Law Information Centre (FLIC) at your local Court House.
