Background:

The Child and Family Services Act was recently amended to pave the way to resolve child protection cases through collaborative inclusive solutions, such as child protection mediation. These new measures require children's aid societies to consider alternative dispute resolution processes, such as mediation, in situations where a child may be in need of protection.

Instructor:

Kathleen A. Chapman, B.A. (Honours), LL.B., Legal Advisor and Mediator;
Director of The Family Mediation Centre, London, Ontario;
OAFM Accr. Child Protection Mediator.

Kathleen was one of the first instructors to teach the Child Protection Mediation course.

Kathleen has practised family law since 1975. She completed her mediation training through the University of Toronto's School of Social Work and founded The Family Mediation Centre in 1983. Since then she has established a comprehensive mediation practice together with providing training in family mediation. In addition she has completed all course requirements of the Academy of Marital and Family Therapy and is currently completing her Masters of Law in alternative dispute resolution at Osgoode Hall.
